The 2019 iteration of Château de Sales is a blend of 72.5% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 12.5% Cabernet Franc, aged for 14 months in French oak barriques (15% new). Deep ruby in color, it offers an aromatic profile of Montmorency cherries, cassis, allspice, pipe tobacco, licorice and loamy earth. Medium-bodied, fresh, seamlessly alcoholic (14%) and proportionately oaked, it delivers flavors mirroring the nose, coated with medium-weight, sweet tannins. Solid on the midpalate and medium-to-long on the back end, this is a very enjoyable Right Bank offering that is well worthy of its sticker price.
