Georges Laval is a revered yet surprisingly little known grower producer in the Cumières Premier Cru area of Champagne.
Georges Laval began producing Champagne in the early 1970's when he emerged as one of the pioneers of organic viticulture in the region. In addition to practicing impeccable farming, Georges Laval exercised a minimalistic approach in the cellar in order to showcase the chalky, sunbathed terroir of his Cumières vineyards.
Georges' son Vincent joined the tiny Laval family outfit in 1991 after finishing university, and took charge of cellar duties only a few years after. Like his father, Vincent continues to harvest grapes at optimal ripeness and ferments in barrel with indigenous yeasts. The stunningly precise Georges Laval Champagnes continue to be made with low to zero dosage, and sulfur is only added in judiciously small amounts.
