About the Wine: The wine is sourced from four dry-farmed bush vine parcels in the Swartland, with vines aged 16-40 years. The grapes were destemmed, and 50% of the whole clusters of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon were added to the tank. Initially, the must was pigeaged once or twice daily, and after about four days, fermentation began with indigenous yeasts, maintaining temperatures below 28ºC. Maceration lasted 4-6 weeks before the wine was pressed into barrels for malolactic fermentation. It matured for 18 months in a combination of 3rd and 4th fill French oak barrels (225L & 500L) and a 5000L foudre before bottling.

About the Producer:

At its core, Great Heart is about improving the livelihoods of those of those who work for the winery and a portion of all sales go directly to them. With the help of Chris and Andrea Mullineux, Great Heart is led by their assistant winemaker, Gynore Hendricks, who is from the Swartland. A graduate of the prestigious Cape Winemakers Guild Protégé Programme in 2017, Gynore spent her first year working with Miles Mossop, followed by a year at De Grendel Wines, working with Charles Hopkins. Gynore’s final year was spent with the Mullineux’s, where upon graduating in 2019, Gynore was offered the position of Assistant Winemaker at Mullineux and Leeu Passant.
