Chateau Bouchereau Merlot Blend Bordeaux, France 2023 (750ml)
Style: Red Wine (great with a slight chill)
Producer: Chateau Bouchereau
Grapes: 74% Merlot & 26% Cabernet Sauvignon
Where: Bordeaux
Country: France
Taste: A light-style Bordeaux rouge with delicate extraction and soft tannins, showing notes of dark cherry, raspberry, earth, and undergrowth.
Vibes with: Roast chicken, charcuterie, grilled sausages, mushroom dishes, or a simple weeknight pasta. Pop it in the fridge for 20 minutes first and it’s equally good on its own.
.
Why I carry it: It’s classic Bordeaux without the stuffiness: approachable, food-friendly, and made by a family estate that cares about the land. It’s an easy yes for anyone who wants a red that drinks well now.
.
About the Wine: Grapes are de-stemmed and macerated for one month. Aged for six months in steel tanks.
About the Producer: If you think Bordeaux has to be heavy, pricey, and intimidating, this is the bottle that changes your mind. Château Bouchereau makes a light-style Bordeaux rouge with delicate extraction and soft tannins, and it’s one of my favorite reds to serve with a slight chill.
The blend is 74% Merlot and 26% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the flavors are dark cherry and raspberry, with earthy, forest-floor notes of undergrowth. The grapes are de-stemmed and macerated for a full month, then aged for six months in steel tanks, which keeps the fruit bright and the texture smooth.
The estate sits in the village of Massugas, at the eastern edge of the Entre-Deux-Mers region within the Bordeaux AOP, between the Dordogne and Garonne rivers. The soils are grey clay, marl, and limestone, and the oceanic climate brings big nighttime temperature drops that preserve acidity and balance, even in hot vintages. Founded in 1949 by the Cardarelli family and now led by the fourth generation, Château Bouchereau farms 40 hectares sustainably and holds the HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale) certification.
