Welcome to the heart of the Médoc, a name synonymous with joie de vivre amid the great Bordeaux wine region. The Fourcas Dupré estate is part of a special history within a bucolic setting 35 kilometers from Bordeaux. At the beginning of the 13th century, vines appeared at the locality of "Fourcas Dupre", as noted in the cartographic work by the geographer Pierre de Belleyme during the reign of Louis XV. The name "Fourcas Dupre" came into being in 1843 when Maitre Jean Antoine Dupré became the owner. Taken over by the Pagès family in 1970, the estate continued to uphold the same ethos of precision, expertise and passion. In 2019, Breton entrepreneur Gèrard Jicquel purchased the estate. A long-time wine aficionado, he has a strong passion for Bordeaux wines. Located between Moulis and Saint-Julien, the Fourcas plateau rises to 42 m. For this reason, the vines enjoys good natural drainage; the wind and the proximity of the forest temper more intense weather, allowing the grapes to ripen at a slow, qualitative rate. The Château Fourcas Dupré vineyard covers a single estate of 47.2 hectares. It is composed of more than 80% Pyrenean gravel, along with clayey, chalky and clay-limestone subsoils. This “Pyrenean gravel” terroir is unique in the Médoc and provides our wine with a very distinctive character – minerality, complexity, smoky and toasty notes on the palate, and finally a remarkable aptitude for ageing. The wine is matured in barrels made of French oak for 12 to 14 months, refreshed by thirds each year. The malolactic fermentation carried out in barrels ensures that the wine takes on all the aromas of the wood. Particular care is given during blending so as to respect the character of each vintage and the characteristics of our exceptional terroir.
