Begun in 1966 on the family farm in Suditrol by Alphons Walcher, and currently being run by his two sons Theodor and Matthias, this Northern Italian artisan distillery specializes in the local mountain bittersweet liqueurs of the region. The Spritz leans bitter on the nose with pronounced notes of gentian and mountain flowers along with wild strawberries and candied orange peels and ruby grapefruit. The palate is decidedly bittersweet and medium bodied, starting sweet and luscious and finishing dry. An excellent spirit for low ABV thirst quenching cocktails or to mix up with stronger boozy spirits for a drink that needs some sweetness but can hold its own without getting drowned out. The Walcher family is committed to sustainable practices.
