About the Whiskey

Ha’Penny Four Cask Irish Whiskey is a non-age statement blend of 4–10-year-old whiskies from four types of barrels – Bourbon, Port, Sherry and Double Charred. Non-chill filtered and no artificial colors added. A rich nose with hints of nuttiness, dried berries, tropical fruits, vanilla, and cinnamon. This whiskey uses upcycled Town Branch Bourbon and re-charred Town Branch Rye barrels for its aging regiment.

About the Producer:

Pearse Lyons, born in Dublin and raised in Dundalk, came from a lineage of coopers on his mother’s side, with his family’s cooperage providing barrels for Irish breweries and distilleries. Inspired by a passion for science, he worked at Harp brewery and Guinness before studying brewing and distilling at the University of Birmingham, where he earned the first Irish master’s degree in the field in 1968.

Lyons’ career in Irish whiskey began at Irish Distillers, where he helped design the Middleton Distillery. In 1976, he moved to the U.S. to expand Biocon’s presence and train ethanol distillers in Kentucky. Four years later, he and his wife Deirdre founded Alltech, which grew into a global company with over 6,000 employees, focusing on sustainable solutions for agriculture.

In 1999, Lyons revived the Lexington Brewing Company, and in 2012 expanded it to Lexington Brewing & Distilling Co., Kentucky’s largest craft brewery. The same year, he and Deirdre restored St. James’ Church in Dublin into the Pearse Lyons Distillery, which opened in 2017, producing award-winning Irish whiskeys. The Pearse 5-Year-Old Single Malt was the first produced by a new Irish distillery in over 25 years.

In addition to Pearse Lyons Distillery, Lyons founded Dueling Barrels Brewery & Distillery in Pikeville, Kentucky. Pearse Lyons passed away in 2018, earning posthumous honors in both the U.S. and Ireland for his transformative contributions to the whiskey and bourbon industries.
