This is one I love recommending to customers who want a lot of wine for not a lot of money. Mahu's Sauvignon Blanc comes from Chile's Maule Valley, the country's largest and one of its oldest wine-growing regions, located in the Central Valley south of Santiago — and it delivers serious character for the price.
Made by Pablo Morandé, a name that carries real weight in Chilean winemaking, this Sauvignon Blanc is zesty and refreshing, with bright notes of passion fruit, gooseberry, and citrus, plus a green, flinty edge. Maule's varied soils and continental climate — warm days, cool nights — give the grapes plenty of ripeness while still holding onto the acidity and minerality that make this style so food-friendly.
Mahu was born out of Morandé's push to give each Chilean appellation the recognition it deserves — these are value-driven wines from one of South America's most respected winemakers, and this bottle is proof you don't need to spend a fortune to drink something with real sense of place.
Why I carry it: Honest, appellation-driven winemaking at a price that makes it an easy bottle to keep on hand — a great introduction to what Maule Valley can do with white wine. - Debbie
